6 QUESTIONS WITH MIKE DALLAS, JR. “THE SILENT ASSASSIN” LOOKS TO SHOOT DOWN JAVIER CASTRO JUNE 22 AT SOBOBA IN ESPN “FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS” MAIN EVENT

201

With a week to go before he steps up to challenge #4-ranked WBO Latino Junior Welterweight Champion Javier Castro for his international title belt at the Soboba Casino in San Jacinto, CA – with a possible world title opportunity for the winner lying in the balance – Mike Dallas, Jr. took time out to discuss his upcoming June 22nd ESPN “Friday Night Fights” main event.

This fight will mark the fourth straight appearance on ESPN for the 25-year old Bakersfield, CA native known as “The Silent Assassin.”

1. What are your thoughts on headlining an ESPN “Friday Night Fights” telecast with a possible world title fight at stake?

MD: “I look at this as a great opportunity for me to set myself up in a position to realize my dream of winning a world title. This will be my fourth straight time fighting on ESPN, and I have had mixed results so far. I know I am taking a step up in competition against a top five fighter in Castro, but I believe I am focused, prepared and ready for the challenge”.

2. You rebounded nicely versus Miguel Gonzalez after two tough losses. How is your mindset going into this fight against one of the world’s premier 140 pounders?

MD: “I’m feeling great both physically and mentally. I’m ready for this challenge. I’m looking forward to putting on a good performance in this fight and getting better and better with each fight.”

3. How has training camp gone for you?

MD: “I’ve been training in Oakland with Virgil Hunter and it has been going good. Virgil is a great teacher and has me well prepared. This will be our third fight together and I learn more and more from him every day.”

4. Compare your boxing style to Castro’s.

MD: “I am more of a boxer and have a bigger variety of weapons than he does. He is strictly a power puncher and has knocked out his last three opponents, so he is dangerous. I possess more speed and better defense. This is a classic matchup of power versus speed and should make for an exciting fight.”

5. What would be the significance of a win over a Top 5 opponent such as Javier Castro?

MD: It would be me taking a major step forward toward realizing my goal of fighting for – and winning – a world title and being recognized as the best junior welterweight in the world.”

6. What is your prediction on the fight?

MD: “I am not going to make any prediction. All I can say is that I am going out to box and just win.”

The six-bout event is being promoted by Goossen Tutor Promotions in association with Soboba Casino. The Castro-Dallas bout is being promoted in association with Promociones Del Pueblo.

JOHN MOLINA JR. CONTINUES HIS ASSCENT TO THE TOP OF THE LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION AS A MEMBER OF GOOSSEN TUTOR PROMOTIONS

2011 ESPN2 Friday Night Fights Weigh In - June 23, 2011

Sherman Oaks, CA (April 27) Speculation of a turbulent relationship between John Molina Jr. (23-1, 19 KOs) and Goossen Tutor Promotions were put aside today in the Los Angeles office of the California State Athletic Commission. Putting those differences to rest, the two parties met face to face and agreed to move forward together and fulfill Molina’s dream of becoming world champion.

“I’m excited to continue my career under the Goossen Tutor banner,” said the 29-year-old lightweight contender. “There were some differences that we were able to get to the bottom of and now we can go back to focusing on winning a world title.

“I’ve been in the gym this whole time and I’m looking forward to showcasing my ability and showing the world that I am ready to take on and beat the upper echelon of fighters at 135. This is fair warning: [WBC lightweight World Champion] Antonio Demarco (27-2-1, 20 KOs), [WBO lightweight World Champion] Ricky Burns (34-2, 9 KOs), I’m coming for you.”

John Molina Jr. is widely considered one of the hottest young lightweight prospects in boxing. A native of Covina, California who has posted 19 vicious knockouts among his first 23 wins, while only sustaining one loss in his career, had fought his way to the #3 world ranked contender, until the recent spate of inactivity intervened and lower his world ranking.

“I’m ready to get my top ranking back, a world title belt around my waist, and any of the champions at 135 and of course, I’ll always make an exception for (Brandon) Rios,” Molina said.

Molina previously had his sights set on Rios (30-0-1, 22 KOs) having had two potential fights with Rios never come to fruition. Rios, who was stripped of the WBA World Championship for failing to make weight in his second defense against John Murray, was given another shot at the vacant title in his very next fight against Richard Abril this past April. Though Rios managed to squeeze out a controversial split decision victory, he failed to make weight for the second time in a row, and did not recapture the championship as a result.

“We look forward to continuing our relationship with this great young and exciting fighter and are anxious to see him rise to the top of the lightweight division,” promoter Dan Goossen said. “We will have him back in the ring in June and announce an opponent and venue shortly.”

Molina’s most recent ring appearance came in June of last year, when he took on Robert Frankel (28-11-1, 5 KOs) at Pechanga Resort & Casino in Cabazon, Calif. Molina was too quick and powerful for the tested veteran fighter, and Raul Caiz Jr. would stop the bout at the conclusion of round 5.

“We plan on getting John right back to the top of the organizations lightweight division and have him fighting for a title by the end of the year,” stated Goossen.
